I have never looked into them, but why is this?

Also I did not know that PTR made a 7.62x39 g3 until recently. I may get one just because of reasons-

*in AR15's they are not reliable. Excessive conical case shape. When they run through the straight AR mag well they have tendencies for feed issues/jams. They also like to break bolts.

Makes sense that the mag would cause some problems, that thing just doesn't look right to begin with. However, if you could make one run well I bet it would be pretty what with the low cost of 7.62x39.

My cousin has a 5.45x39 AR that eats up spam can ammo with no problems. That round is hard to beat when it comes down to dollars and cents.

So far it hasn't missed a beat with American brass ammo (about 100 rounds). It has a soft primer hit problem (I think) with steel cased shit ammo. Modifying the firing pin seemed to help it a lot, I'm hoping the stronger hammer springs will help the rest. We'll see, I'm pretty determined to make it work. Tweaking it to run reliably is what makes it fun for me. It will feed the ammo, eject the cases, but on some rounds it will strike the primer, it just wont go off, but only on the cheap shit.

I bought a few of the new ASC mags. So far so good. I blew thru a couple of full 30rd mags with the brass ammo in a few seconds without issue so far.

A little update on this turd.....

I was having some issues where it wouldn't fire cheap Wolf ammo. I did some research and found it was a common problem and needed a stiffer hammer spring, and the shoulder on the firing pin need to be milled down a few thousandths so it would hit the hard primers in the cheap ammo harder.

I went out to Magnum in Sanger and put about 350 rounds thru it on Friday. I got it sighted in at 100 yards, and played with it out to 200 a little bit, it ran great the whole time, UNTIL I put the Tula ammo in it. All day I had been shooting Wolf, and figured I would try the really shitty stuff, I made thru about 15 rounds of that shit and it failed to extract. The extractor grabbed the casing but didn't pull it out of the chamber, I separated the upper from the lower and tried to get it out from the chamber end and it was stuck like hell. I ended up having to use a real long screw driver from the muzzle end to knock it out, I had to wack it pretty good. The shell was ballooned out and stuck. I'm not real sure what happened, I just figured it was the shit ammo. Anyone have any ideas on that I'm open to hear them.

I'm pretty happy with it, that one round was the only problem Ive had so far.

Surprising, it wasn't that dirty. I totally expected it to be full blown nasty

Chamber build up. My piston gun doesn't have an issue with this, but the last DI gun I built would get stuck cases on the steel stuff quite a bit. Just don't switch between ammo and don't let it cool down with a round in the chamber when shooting the nasty stuff. Take a chamber brush with you and hit it with it a couple of times before you switch between ammo types.

I was always intrigued by the 7.62 AR, but just couldn't get past the magazines. That's why I made my 5.45x39 SBR. And you aren't the only one with the soft hit problems. 5.45 has the same issue and I put a wolf heavy spring in mine. Still waiting to test it out, but it was way stiffer and a bit harder to put in than the standard DPMS trigger spring.

This has actually turned out to be a pretty fun little rifle. I just wish it wasn't as heavy as it is. I super douched the shit out of it after that stuck case deal and scrubbed the chamber with a 12ga brush and hosed it out real good with carb cleaner, so far so good.

The springs and the modified firing pin must have done the trick, because it goes bang every time now.

I had a family member give me about 500 x39 brass cases that he didn't have any use for any more so I'm thinking about loading up some 155gr SST's and taking it when we go pig hunting in November, just to try it out.
