I considered making a short barrel hunting gun with it for varmints... VQ does make a high cap 10/22 mag magazine... it's just expensive as shit in typical VQ fashion:

          I would like to build a 10/17HMR...

That was popular for a while until all the manufacturers discovered it doesn't work. The guns wear out, barrels get damaged, etc. There's a reason no one makes the kits anymore.

yeah, I know all the MFG's recalled all the semi-auot .17hmr's, but I think it can work given the right parts. Heavier bolt/buffer, better barrel etc. On something like a 10/22 where it's easy to change barrels, barrel life/wear shouldn't be an issue/concern.

Just letting you know, no single manufacturer of any of those parts stands behind them.

That's not the problem they ran into. They ran into a situation where the cases got stuck, and could cause further problems. Semi-auto .17hmr's are tough to make run reliably.
ZOMBIE REAGAN FOR PRESIDENT 2016!!! heh

What causes the .17HMR cases to get stuck but not the 22WMR? Same length, OD, etc... Higher pressures from .17? I thought they were around the same pressure, but not certain.

You mean HM2? It's the thin cases and high pressures of a necked cartridge that does it. The fact it operates on blow-back is the problem they have, insufficient extraction.

No, i actually mean HMR. HMR is a necked down 22WMR case right?. And HM2 is a necked down 22lr case?. I want a mag fed .17HMR semi-auto.

They get stuck because they are necked down, the expand more and contract less, hence the getting stuck problem. A lot of people want a mag fed .17 HMR, they are still wanting.
