Ah, I see what you were saying about the stock. Just looked a little more into it.

I have this one on my 458 SOCOM and I like it.

Might be worth looking at a noveske rogue hunter if you want to go around 2 grand

1665 for complete rifle, spend the rest on optic of your choice

Kind of defeats the purpose of building it myself.

Oh that is right, you will be on days. I was thinking about hitting a range Tuesday morning.

If you're going to spend $2,000 don't buy a 16" barrel... build an SBR.

I'm not really into the real short barrels on ar's. I like the size of the mid-length barrels (16", 18" ). They still have the longer barrel look, but are more compact.

That's not really what .300 is designed for, but it's cheaper than an AR-10 I guess.

It's just for fun anyways. Unless zombies show up, all it's going to be killing is hogs and paper targets.

Hell if his budget is $2000ish, he can get a nice AR-10 and optics and have the rifle he really wants. IMHO, go for an AR-10 if you wanna do the long barrel.

If it is your first or only AR I would go 5.56. Save the .308 and odd ball round for after you are comfortable working on them. That holds more true for the .300.
