Well, I saw this problem coming way before it came but I figured I'd cross that bridge when it came. Well, now it's time and I'm still very surprised no one has a solution for this very basic issue.
I'm building a 9" .300 BLK SBR. This gun is going to be used with a suppressor exclusively. The first issue is all SBR .300 barrels have to use a pistol length gas system. The reason being is since they are relatively low pressure, you have to increase the dwell time of the projectile to generate the necessary gas to cycle the action.
Here's the problem: I'm running an unrailed low profile Adam's Arms piston setup for this gun. Since it's located at the pistol location (4" from the chamber) and I'm going to be running a mid length (or longer) rail, the gas block is located INSIDE of the rail. The problem is I can't reach the knob to adjust the gas block. Sounds like a pretty funny problem to have, but it's definitely real. From what I've found there is no rail that allows you to reach the knob without it looking ridiculous. My initial thought was to see if Adam's Arms makes a keyed or hex headed knob, so I could use a long allen wrench to adjust it from the front. So far I haven't found anything. I've considered machining an extension which would slip over the knob and then a mount to hold it in place at the muzzle. The other idea which seems a little more simple is to cut the rail by the knob so I can somehow reach in there, or use a custom tool to adjust it.
Anyone have an idea?
