  • Buying a gun online, precautions to take?

I found a Walther PPS .40 for a good deal, but its in South Carolina. Looks like the typical sale setup: money order/cashiers check or discreet paypal with 3% extra, bill of sale after receipt of payment, and then will transfer to FFL here. Obviously I am pretty uneasy about just sending several hundred uninsured dollars to some guy across the US. How does this process typically work? And is there anything I can do to protect myself other than just not buying from him?

I do it all the time on Gunbroker and GunsAmerica. Just pick people with lots of sales and a good rating. I don't like the ones that wont take credit cards but I have done business with a few and have not had problems. Of course I am buying the more expensive guns (over say $700 and most over $1000) not sure if my logic or history apply if you are buying cheap stuff..... But I understand your misgivings. I was really nervous the first time I mailed postal money orders to someone with no recourse.....

So basically I have no assurances other than references? This thing is posted everywhere (walther forums, ppstalk, defensivecarry, glocktalk, etc) so not sure if thats a good or bad thing.

I just did a deal on Gun broker and it went fine. I paid with paypal and I didn't know at the time that was a no no. After sorting that out with those liberal fucks over at paypal the deal was smooth. I would be hesitant to buy from an individual on a web forum or something like that unless he has stellar feedback. At least on gun broker you can see feedback.

Well this guy has some pretty stellar feedback. Guess I'll be the new owner of a PPS .40 soon. I just hope us military guys get paid this month
