  • WTB: Home defense shotgun...

I'm more of a pistol guy and don't know shit about shotguns. What shall I get to "invade an invader"?

Recommendations and "I have a great condition one cheap for you" is even better...

Maverick 88 by Mossberg for $189 at Academy.

It's just a basic, inexpensive and functional 12 gauge.

Mossberg 500, Winchester 1300, Remington 870 are all fine home defense guns.

I still need to pick up a light and a strap for mine.

That barrel looks shorter than the one pictured in the ad for academy

Instead of making a new thread here too, what would be suggested for home defense? 12 or 20 ga? Id like to be able to run out to the range and shoot a few skeet once in a while as well, but mainly for home defense.

It's the 88 Security. Comes with a 18 1/2" barrel. No need to be swinging a 28" barrel around the house if you ever need to use it.

I planned on picking up a longer barrel for it to shoot skeet but for shits and giggles, I brought it out with the short barrel... and it was pretty damn accurate, lol. Of course, I put my stock back on it though.

And you might as well get a 12 if it's just for home defense and range time.

For God's sake, buy one with a stock.

What kind of pistol grip is that? I didn't see if you bought it like that or not.

No, it came with a synthetic stock when new. That is a Hogue grip I bought for it. It's a very nice, comfortable grip and wasn't much more than the cheap hard plastic grips.

If it's for home defense, why a stock? Unless a flock of doves or a box of skeet decide to rob me, I don't need to be super precise with my shots. My house isn't that big and if I did encounter someone, there might be a max of 15-20 ft between us. At that distance, just pointing the gun in that general direction is sufficient.

Besides, I've fired it with the grip on it. It's not THAT hard to aim with it anyway.

Feels better to me to have a stock, and I can manipulate the gun better. Also, pistol grip shotguns peg the neckbeard gauge.
