Just seeing who is interested so I can start asking vendors what's the best deal they can do. Either for 16" barrel or complete upper from a place like Arperformance

Sound good enough for you? It's the vendor we're working the bcg's as well. I'm apprehensive about expanding the amount of vendors in the group buy, the price is right, and many vendors (this one included) are very sensitive to selling at these prices. Because of this, we may make it only available to people involved in the last gb.

Are there any further details or am I missing something again?

I ask since 6.8 is on my list of something with a longer barrel and if price is right I may just buy this and wait another year or two before moving on to the other parts.

Why a longer barrel? The round was designed around 14.5" and you only gain around 100fps with anything longer than 16". The 6.8 is a sub 400-500 yard round on a good day.

Generally speaking, I'm not a fan for the 16" barrels on much of anything. I have no technical reason for it and I understand the tactical advantage to it in some situations.

I only want to have 1 rifle (besides my 22) that has a shorter barrel. All the others I'd prefer to be 20" going forward.

there isn't enough powder in a 6.8 case to take advantage of the volume of a larger barrel, if anything it could cause a loss in velocity. .300 whisper and 6.8 both are designed for a 16" barrel. And if it makes it easier to wield, lighter, and the same accuracy, it's win win.

If you dont reload the 6.8 is about $1 a round for the decent stuff. Which reminds me I need to start pricing reloading equipment.

You can build a .223 for cheap and the ammo is plenty. Unless you are going to hunt with the AR like I am I would stick with the .223. The 6.8 is kind of a hybrid between a .270 bullet and a .223 casing. Most people call it a .270 light since it uses the same bullet but does not have the range.

For the areas I hunt in Texas the 6.8 is perfect. Short barrel, light weight, little recoil, and packs a punch that will take anything here. If I need long range I will bring out my .308

                          ever considered the .300 fireball?

Same idea as a 6.8, but it shoots a .30 cal projectile. The advantages are the .30 can be suppressed (.270 suppressors are fewer) cheaper. It has more energy delivery. It also uses cheap easy to find .223 cases, and the projectiles are much cheaper and more selections are available. And best thing is you can buy military grade bullets in bulk. At 100 yards a .300 fireball loses about 20fps - that's impressive. And the best thing is they are absolutely quiet as hell while still cycling the action (something a .308 or AR-10 can't do).

                              long range anyone?
