knife guys what do you think of this sharpener

Thoughts on this sharpener. I've only taken a cursory glance at the knife hobby (or carrying them) but there seem to be some people out there who warn others to stay away from these types of sharpeners. I know we've got some of you knife people in here so I wanted to ask. Are these things good, bad, or ugly? As a knife novice I can't see why they'd hurt anything. Something about the carbide ripping out tiny chunks of the knife, which are impurities. But should anyone really care?

Reason I want to know is cause I'd like to get a few knives to carry and keep in the vehicles but it never fails I dull them up and then they suck.

I've had those type of sharpener make an edge jagged. I use a 3 stage whet stone for my knives.

I've used several things, belt driven....settled on the warthog vsharpener, still use the other stuff, but when I want it damn good, fast - I use that.

I bought one of these a few years ago and it's been awesome. It's idiot proof and has fixed some otherwise ruined knives for me.

Get one of the lansky setups or the spyderco sharpmaker.

I use one from the great American tool co. Like.lansky but nicer.

Key I've found to any sharpening system is a simple price of leather and strop,strop, strop.

I've also got a worksharp that I'll use on cheap shit. It works well, but it'll never get close to my good blades.
