  • cerakote optics?

First of all I just want to put it out there that I don't really know what cerakote even is besides some sort of coating that is popular on firearms.

I am wondering if there are any local recommendations for cerakote services. I am building a rifle now and it is about 95% FDE. The optic and mount I bought for it are both black as there were no other options.

Can you apply cerakote to an optic? Does it have to be baked? Would this hurt the optic? The last thing I want to do is ruin a brand new 1k piece of glass just because the color doesn't match.

Typical Cerakote is baked on at something like 250+ F so you'd have to be careful. I've seen it done in a few instances but I imagine its dependent on the specific design and how far you can take the disassembly if there are any low temp plastics installed.

I think they also sell an air cure product that allows you to keep it at RT. That may be your best bet.
