  • Colt AR-15 Question.

I am getting a Colt AR-15A2 and was thinking about getting another upper for it, since it has the handle and I want a flat top.

I was told by a Person in a gunshop that the colts mating pins(the ones that hold the upper and lower together) are of a little different size then those of other AR makers. Is this the case??

If so, what should I look for when it comes to getting an upper?

    Only on very early models
"When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin
"A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury." -Alexander Fraser Tytler

Depends on when it was made. If it's a govt model it will be small hole. Civilian sold AR15a2 marked Colt guns will probably be large hole.
To run other/newer uppers you can buy adapter pins that screw in. You can also have a gun smith permanently sleeve it to only receive small pin uppers.

Ok, Thanks. If memory serves me correctly it was purchased originally in the late 80's early 90's. So when I get it I will take it somewhere to have them look at it.

Dude, if you don't want to mess with it, I might buy it. I'm going for one of each, and I an A2.
