      There is no legitimate reason to ban anyone from owning a gun unless they are in prison. If you can't be trusted to have 100% of your rights reinstated upon release, you should not be released. If you have never been arrested and convicted of a crime then there is no reason to deny firearms ownership. There is no grey area for me. The label of mental illness is not even well defined legally and is too open to interpretation which could lead to a very slippery slope one day. It appears the governement has begun confiscation of legally purchased firearms.
