  • Check out my new 1911 Safe Queen....

Went to the Big Town gun show today. Found something and fell in love again.... Man this has got to stop or I will be broke!!

This is a Colt Series 70 National Match Gold Cup with a wide trigger and hammer and higher than normal beaver tail safety. All factory. 1 of 100 made. I got the original box and all paperwork. New and unfired. I always said I would not ever buy a safe queen but I don't think I will fire this one.

Question for CJ: The grip safety rattles. Would you replace that "three fingered spring" (not sure of the real name LOL) or would you try to bend it? I guess a current part would fit but I am not sure if that would hurt the value? Any chance this is normal for this year? It was made in 1977...

Very nice! That makes me feel like a broke chump.

I just did the opposite and came home tonight with a new SA Range Officer. It's not going to be anything close to a safe queen though!!

          $800

I found better prices online but didn't want to wait, pay tax or transfer fee so it basically evened out and I got to bring it home the same day.

Very nice, and 1 of 100 to boot. Do you plan to fire it (I sure hope so)?

Nice piece, I have a series 70 Government model sans the national match version. I have almost those same pistol racks in my safe as well, lol. I would just disassemble it completely, clean everything, oil it as required and put it back together then see if it still rattles.

The guy that sold it to me said if I fire it, it immediately loses $500 in value... I will think about it for a while. But I wont be firing it anytime soon....

Well I field stripped it and cleaned it. I use gun scrubber which is a spray that seems to get into everywhere and remove all the gunk. And it still rattles. But I did not totally disassemble it. The only thing I can think is that the spring ( the one in behind the mainspring housing and grip safety) that has three fingers, has the finger for the grip safety too weak. I suspect that I could bend it but since it is so old, I am not sure if that will work. I really don't want to break it. Not sure how the 70 series guns are with regard to interchangable parts with modern guns. But then again if I replaced the spring that would probably hurt he value. But I am not sure.

Looks like we have the same gun racks. Mine has a gray fabric in it but otherwise it is identical. I bought my safe from "The Safe Company" in Garland and they have a guy that builds these racks for them. I even met him once to buy another one. If I don't get rid of this addiction I will have to buy even more of them from him. LOL

I have 2 of the racks which were totally full of pistols before the divorce. I have a National Security safe which I had full and had to buy a new interior for again before the divorce. This is it now.

No it's a Miltech K98, the Mauser, Garand and M1 Carbine are all Miltech pieces.

If you dont plan to shoot it i would bend it to keep it all original.
