I've had several phases in my love of firearms and the Second Amendment. It started with 1911 love. Then Glock love. Then 1911 love again. And an ongoing love affair with revolvers (I want to pick up a Ruger SP 101 or GP100). But I now have moved onto 10mm love.
It started over 15 years ago when I shot a friend of mines Glock 20. I might even say it happened before that, way before that. Like back in the 80's when Don Johnson was carrying the Bren Ten on Miami Vice. What a powerful round that was still manageable with the recoil but compact enough to hold 15 rounds on a full size Glock frame.
But what really got my interest back again was a couple of summers ago when I went camping in the New Mexico back country and felt a little undergunned carrying a 1911. I felt I needed something a little more powerful than a .45 ACP with more capacity. Then last summer I bought a Glock 21 because I wanted to be able to carry more .45 ACP rounds (plus the fact that I shot a lot of it) but also with the thought of converting it to 10mm with a barrel swap and using it as my bear defense gun.
I should have done more research before last summers trip as 10mm conversion barrels were not to be found anywhere and it wasn't until a couple of months ago I was able to pick one up. Finally got around to buying a couple hundred rounds of 10mm FMJ and taking it to the range last week. Damn I'm digging this. And I just finished reading a story about a guy who defended himself from a bear attack in Alaska with a Glock 20 (he shot off his toe in the process LOL!).
So far I'm using the stock recoil rod and spring from the 21/45 ACP. It's been reliable so far but I think I want something more than the factory plastic setup. Any ideas of what I should use with it? I'll be posing this question over on Glock Talk but I know there's a bunch of guys on here that shoot 10mm/Glock 20's so I figured I'd start here. Also what would you guys suggest for a good bear round?
