The worst I've gotten so far is "don't reach for yours and I won't reach for mine".
Unless you have exhaust the turning of the car off is not really necessary but no biggie. Over the years I have not even given a second thought to anyone that has told me they have a gun in the car. I mean who the hell is going to warn me ahead of time they have a gun if they wish to do me harm. I have made some jokes at the gun owners expense about keeping their gun where their insurance is. Orrrr "I have a gun, but it's not loaded". I am like well that's pretty dumb!

Don't you guys have all the insurance info electronically now? Do you really need to see a piece of paper nowadays?

The last time I was pulled over, I acknowledged by hitting my hazard lights. I knew there was an exit a mile or so up the road. I exited, parked in a safe spot for him and I both, killed the car, rolled the window down, hands on the wheel and waited for him to approach. He asked for my license, I produced license and CHL. He handed my CHL back and said he didn't need that. Asked for my insurance, I told him where my gun was, where my insurance was, and how I was going to reach for it. A few minutes later, he sent me on my way with a warning.

You are still required to carry it. We do have that data but you would be surprised at the amount of times it will say unconfirmed on my computer and people have insurance. Temp tags do not have that info attached and commercial vehicles almost never have it right. You can show it on your phone though also.

It's a habit from back when you needed keys to start a car. I used to throw them on the dash. I forgot to mention that I'd usually box myself in if possible. More of a display in I'm not interested in resisting.

I'm not on this whole back the blue thing, but again, I don't think it's smart to add to an already stressful situation. I can appreciate you for bring light to a potentially serious situation.

I keep my gun just below my steering wheel on the steering column. You can see SOMETHING there, but wouldn't assume it's a firearm, in general.

Honestly, I get it. There are some asshole cops out there that should have never been given a badge. On the flip side there are some people with cars that should have never been given keys. I try to cut everyone a break if I can. I don't write hardly any tickets but I have caught a lot of really bad people. I want people in the town I work to trust LE and not worry about bull shit stuff. No bull shit arrests, no more than one or two tickets if you stop some one. I better not ever catch my guys racial profiling, etc etc. I have made face book a lot, and it is never bad stuff.

I didn't mean to make that anti-cop either. I just meant that I'm not jumping on some trend or anything. The only time I've personally had shitty experiences with officers is when they flat out called me a liar, or I was being shitty to begin with as a youth.

As an example, I had a friend in a Supra do a burnout in front of me at a stop light... The officer pulled me over for "exhibition of speed" and wrote me a ticket. No matter what I said he "saw" me do it.

I'd like to edit and say off your post on here I respect you.**

I didn't take not jumping on the back the blue band wagon as anti cop either.

I try to be fair and reasonable.

                  Thanks.

Cool. I respect the job. I don't respect people covering for each other when they fuck up, although I get it.

Profiling; racial or otherwise used to be called something different, it was called good police work and it was learned through experience.
Magnus, I am your father. You need to ask your mother about a man named Calvin Klein.

                        Word.

Lights on, hands on 10 and 2, drivers side windows down and pretty much do my best job to not be an asshole and make an officers job easier by telling him what i am doing, where my information is, etc. If he decides to still be a dickhead, then that's on him and I dont have to be a nice guy either, but I always do my best to put myself in his shoes and not stress him/her out from the get-go.

Sticking your hands out or on the roof would be...weird.

I like to pull forward just a few feet when the cop gets to the back of my car. Then repeat. Nice and slow, just so he knows it's a joke.

But seriously, I am not tossing myself out the window like I have been on the run and finally giving up. Just hand him the LTC with my DL.

I got pulled over in a small shit town in Oklahoma several months back. I was driving a 18whl'r tractor pulling a tanker behind me and one of my brakes wouldn't release applied pressure and was smoking like a son of a bitch. I couldn't see it in my mirrors and he stopped me. When he got me out of the truck I could smell and then saw the problem. He took my DL and I handed him my Texas LTC anyways. I followed that with "here is my stuff but I am not carrying". Cop actually thanked me for "carrying".
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

If you stop a car based on race thinking you are doing good police work you are wrong.

If you have a legitimate reason to believe the occupants have or are about to commit a crime then that is reasonable suspicion to make a stop and ID the occupants. You can only detain them long enough to determine a crime has been committed. Some cops never make a on view burglary or theft arrest in their entire career. I have around six or more, so I would like to think my methods are sound with out taking race into consideration. Being persistent and knowing your beat and citizens goes a long way towards building reasonable suspicion when something is askew.

I would be like "Sir if you don't cut that out, you're not going to like what is about to happen next".

I like to give a friendly warning before the shenanigans start!
