Shipping a Handgun in state

I thought we had a post on here about shipping handguns but I couldn't find it. I'm selling a Sig to a guy in Houston and I thought I could ship with either FedEx or UPS but I couldn't confirm that on their website (actually it says it needs to go FFL to FFL) and when I call them they are saying I can't ship through them unless I'm a dealer. I had this gun shipped directly to my house earlier in the year with no problems but honestly I don't know if it was labeled it was a firearm or what. Did something change or am I just speaking to idiots in customer service?

I BELIEVE that if its in the state lines you can ship a gun to its owner.

I just went through this returning my XDS for the warranty. I just went to fed ex with a shipping label and they shipped it. Then it was shipped back to me directly. It was a bit strange to me, but apparently it's pretty normal.

I have shipped my own gun to my own address via USPS and have shipped another one of my guns to a manufacturer using FedEx or UPS, but had to be overnight. I'm thinking the only way you can make the exchange is face to face even within the state and has to go through an FFL otherwise?

That's what I'm not so sure of anymore. I had this handgun mailed directly to my house I believe through FedEx. Also I had a member of the board, who's an FFL, tell me that it can be done this way. Just not sure if the people I'm speaking to in customer service simply do not know the local state laws regarding mailing firearms. Might just finish packaging this up and taking it down there and see what they say.

You have to go to a main hub, not a ups store. Before I was an FFL I used the UPS in mesquite to ship all my firearms out. It may be more beneficial and cost effective to just pay an FFL to ship it for you.

I went to the UPS hub off of Monroe in Dallas and was told no they won't ship from an individual to individual in state. Same thing at the FedEx in Lancaster. Anyway, got tired of messing with it and now sending it through an FFL.

At least at both stops I made yesterday they made an effort to help. But to be honest, I searched online yesterday and couldn't find anything confirming that this can be done other than various posts I found on message boards and they were pretty old.

fedex and ups policy is that you must use overnight air, only an ffl can us usps
cheapest legal route is ffl/usps
priced fedex overnight at about 50 while sending a pos back to Taurus on them, their cost was 15

Shipping TO and FROM a Distributor or a Manufacturer is different.

Only Dealers may send a handgun via USPS. As far as I can verify it is legal to ship BOTH handguns and Long-guns via "common carrier" within your state of residence.

Q: May a nonlicensee ship a firearm by common or contract carrier?
A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by a common or contract carrier to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. In addition, Federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm and prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm.
