Tangential SVO-style story:

My neighbor is a certified badass. His military career started when he did 8 yrs in Delta including time in Vietnam.
Last night we had some bourbon and cigars on his porch (a many-times-a-week occurrence). I was telling him about a new pistol I got and we quickly got into his favorite guns, and he said that the CAR-15 he had in Vietnam was his favorite rifle throughout his career.



( He's old school - he also carried an M79 everywhere he went, including into Desert Storm, and his favorite backup backup sidearm was his Browning Hi-Power. His private security company was responsible for the safety of Ayad Allawi when he was president of Iraq, he flies out to Virginia to play poker with 4-star generals, etc, and after his time in Delta his specialty was counter-intel. Fucking FASCINATING guy to get drunk with at least once a week )

Mine was a total POS. I think it was a model 604 (no forward assist) and did nothing but jam no matter how many times the armorer worked on it. Actually it was such a widespread problem that I don't think they actually fixed them. I think they just kept them for a day and squirted some oil all over to make you think they did something.
Anyway I was walking to the latrines and some dumb SOB left a pristine M2 paratrooper leaning on the rack. Thirty seconds later, I was a happy man.
