  • Looking for a new gun for the wife...

The wife wants to start packing. I'll probably check out Bullet Trap or Frisco Gun Club to rent a few guns but BT charges $10/gun rental and FGC charges $15. I'd like to keep the rental costs down so maybe the experienced gun collectors here can steer me to a couple to check out.

We've been to the range before and she prefers my Kimber Ultra Carry II .45over my Bersa .380 but I'm not about to drop $$ on another Kimber. She can't really explain what she likes better about it so I don't know if she liked the way it felt in her hand or the way it felt when fired.

I was at Cabela's the other week and I held the Ruger LC9. It has some cool features that I think will suite her well. It's about the size of the Bersa, maybe a little bigger, but definitely smaller than the Kimber thickness wise. The main thing I'm looking for is something with a good trigger pull, not some 11 lb trigger pull like my old S&W Sigma 9. I also held the M&P Shield and it was too fat (wide) for my hands so probably hers too.

We'll be shooting both of mine again this week so hopefully she can give me some info about what she likes about the Kimber. I kind of think she likes it cause it was more expensive than the Bersa but that's just me.

Suggestions? Will a .40 have less recoil than a 9 without much noticeable weight gain? The only 9 I've shot was the S&W above and I had a much better chance at hitting my target if I just threw the gun at it.

Not a pro, but the .40 will absolutely not have less recoil than a 9mm, .40 sucks.

Yes the Sigma was trash but not all 9mm are equally garbage. If you want to rent a lot of guns and not spend a fortune I can't recommend Shoot Smart enough. Either one of their locations would be a haul for you and your wife but they charge a flat amount and you can try as many of the guns that they have, and they have A LOT.

You didn't hold a shield then. They are one of the slimmest guns on the market. Maybe you held the compact?

You're right...that's what it was. That gun was way to slim. I didn't like it. I don't recall what the fatter gun was then.

Wife tried all the popular carry guns and honestly seemed to handle the g19 the best.

If you want cheap, decent quality and a thicker grip look at the PT-111. Mine was $249 plus it had a $50 rebate. Brand new and dry it had one round on the first mag that didn't chamber correctly but after a few mags it shoots pretty nice. It's a double stacked magazine and in 9mm the capacity is 12+1.

I'm in the same boat, my wife hates any hand gun that isn't a 1911. I actually prefer my Shield for a daily carry though.

My wife preferred to carry the G19 which is why we have it and she does not like the LCP. We are also in the market for a purse carry gun for her and I'm going to introduce the LC9 as well.

The trigger pull on the LC9 is looooooooooooooooooooooooooong. I've heard the LC9s is a shorter / better pull.

PSA had the Shield for $349 last week

You mean LCP vs LC9? Yeah the LCP pull is retarded....short range gun only for sure.

My wife has the Sig P238 and loves it. I carry it on occasion when I don't want to saddle up the XDm.

I might pick up the P938 for myself. Whatever you do, don't let her carry a .40S&W. That's what my XDm is and recoil is a bitch with that thing.

Check out the xds series guns. My wife shot my xds 9mm a couple of weeks ago and really liked it. We looked at getting her an lc9s, she liked the feel, said it was pretty comfortable. She did not like the feel of a shield, said it was too thin and had a really awkward grip.

I'm in the same boat as my wife has taken an interest in shooting and will be getting her concealed. I have a Walther P99QA that she wasn't much of a fan of. She liked my XDS better, primarily because it was smaller and felt better in her hand. Both are 9mm which I am going to stay with. I'm not adding a 380 just for her, and she doesn't want more recoil.

My problem is she's lefty, so I need to find a lefty gun...

I had a PT145. Huge pile of shit. Seems they are either hit or miss whether or not they'll experience problems. Mine had to be shipped back to Taurus twice and FT Feed issues were never fixed. You want to see a fine example of a Taurus at work, find any one Brazilian execution video and you'll see the killer fucking with their gun more often in trying to get two shots off in a row than actually pulling the trigger.
