  • Queens man found with AK-47 assault rifle, 17,000 rounds of ammunition

A Queens man was found with a cache of weapons that included an AK-47 assault rifle and 17,000 rounds of ammunition after police learned he ordered a fake NYPD police ID online, police said.

Lee Bergman, 43, was arrested Tuesday morning when police discovered the arsenal in a safe in his home at 81-00 Shore Front Parkway in Far Rockaway.

The Internal Affairs Bureau’s police impersonation unit launched the investigation based on a tip that he ordered forged NYPD identification cards over the Internet. After intercepting the package, they executed a search warrant at 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Bergman refused to unlock the safe, so an emergency services unit forced it open. They discovered an AK-47, eight handguns, five shotguns, two hunting rifles and six flare guns, along with a pistol version of an AR15 that was found to be stolen from Pennsylvania. Also recovered was a fake NYPD shield and four forged police identification cards.

Bergman was charged with various felonies including criminal impersonation of a police officer, possession of forged instruments, and weapons and narcotics offenses, and numerous misdemeanors.

The amount of weapons and ammo that the man had ain't a big deal. I let my old girl friends son keep about that much in his room and he was 13. The dude ordering fake police badges is reason for concern.
Magnus, I am your father. You need to ask your mother about a man named Calvin Klein.

That was my line of thinking when I read that as well.
While suspicious yes, idk how you can actually charge someone if they haven't impersonated anyone yet.

The AK is illegal in New York, I believe. Plus any 30 round mags would be, plus any pistol mags over 7 rounds or whatever that stupid law says. Handgun licenses are hard to get there so they may or may not have been illegal. They were probably able to throw a lot of gun charges at him due to all their stupid restrictions. Remember this is New York, not Texas or Arizona or Alaska.

Perfectly legal and common in Texas, a "big bust" in NY, gotta love it.

Don't forget, he was in possession of a stolen firearm. That alone should cost him his freedom.

I doubt that it was really stolen. It is much more likely that he had someone buy it for him because it is illegal in his state and they reported it stolen to cover their ass. Also considering how many guns I have bought used over the years there is a pretty good chance that I own one that is stolen and I would have no way to know until the police run the serial numbers. Do you know for certain that every single gun you own is "clean"?

Absolutely. Why would you posses a firearm with an uncertain past? That's pretty risky and irresponsible but to each his own I guess.

If I did own a throw away it would be buried in the neighbor's garden, not in my safe with my legit firearms, and only dug up when I needed a "stinger". You know, and some crack to sprinkle on the poor bastard.
