My take on it, yes. Given enough time someone will get in. But it's a matter of odds. What's the odds you'll get robbed? Odds they are in a hurry? What's the odds that guy or guys know how to tackle a safe? Odds they brought tools? So you pay more to only change the odds slightly in your favor but you are really still rolling the dice. At least this is my take on it. Same for the fire rating. As you have seen many state they live near a fire dept and feel response time is adequate, therefore they don't have to spend more for a higher fire rating. Myself on the other hand, live too far, and have no known fire hydrants within 200ft of the house, so I'm kinda boned. Fire ratings really won't mean squat to me unless I fork over some serious cash. This is all personal opinion and I can be completely wrong on my assumptions. I feel in the end it'll be if you feel comfortable with what you spent to protect your stuff, whether something happens or not.

I've posted in other threads about a guy that had a house fire with a very expensive safe and the contents were still trashed afterwards.

Saw a vault of sorts at that safe place in garland that was cut open.

Ultimately it's up to ourselves what we find good enough and for our budget. When you get to those high dollar safes, I will say they sure do look good.

Safe? Doesn't everyone just keep their guns under the mattress and ARs/shotguns/rifles in their closet?

when my dad was slangin out of our house, I stashed the couple guns I had saved up to buy or was given under the house in a crawl space that had access door in my closet. Those are the only ones that didnt get stolen.

Be my guess also. But the man didn't lose anything that was worth a lot. I just think their arms got to full.

You think? There are shelves on one side of the safe, so I doubt there were more than 8-10 long guns total in it. Maybe the door had some handguns on it. I'd also guess that whomever comes equipped to cut into a safe like that would have a means to carry stuff besides just their arms. I'm guessing it takes a bit more than a minute to cut into a safe like that. It certainly wouldn't be a quiet process if you used a gas powered concrete saw. I'm guessing that you'd have to haul the fuel and stuff in for a torch too.

From that perspective, that picture looks fishy to me. I'd say more like someone lost the combination and figured that was the only way to get in their own safe or a safe they somehow found/inherited on a piece or property rather than a theft.

Eh. Guy lost $1500 cash and jewelry also. The list of guns taken was around 20 total.

When I researched, most store safes, if you're lucky, are 12ga steel. I bought to stop the smash-n-grab types. As it's been said, any prepared, determined criminal can get into the safe given enough time.

What would stop you from buying a cheap safe and then up-armoring the shit out of the sides/door so that you can't use a butter knife to cut through it?

They make torch resistant safes with a stainless steel liner...its $1000 extra on most safes. Other than that, thicker steel. That browning was probably 12ga steel. You can get a 3/16 steel body safe with 3/8" door for a reasonable price. Or way thicker steel if you have the money.
