  • Looking for a gun safe

I'm looking for a gun safe, something that can hold 10 or so long rifles and 3-5 pistols with room for a fair amount of ammunition. I'm also looking for something of decent quality and at a fair price. I'm not looking for the cadillac, bells and whistles $2k safe.

    What would you recommend? TIA.

I'm willing to help out if you're patient. Amsec models predominantly
Our Houston warehouse stocks more than Dallas and they don't typically stock transfer for a sale.

Get ready for the flaming, but Costco...

I have one of their safes, and it was like $699 delivered. It is about 5 feet tall, 4 feet wide, and 2-2.5 feet deep. I have lots of toys in it and room for more. It's bolted to the foundation and does what I need it to do. No, it isn't the protection of a high end safe, but the price was right.

I'm in the same boat. Trying to avoid going too crazy with it but I don't want to settle for a stack on gun locker.

Canon is a great safe for the money if you are looking for ok fire protection or someting to stop a smash and grab robbery. I would love to have more high end safes, but I couldnt justify it when I bought them. Even the best safe can be broken into if someone knows how and wants to. Fort Knox keeps armed guards around for a reason.

Wait for cabelas to have a sale, apply for card, spend $2k or more and get 0%. Don't be cheap. You'll only be disappointed.

Here's the one I have from Costco. They'll run it on sale for a few hundred less with free delivery.

Any other decent safe dealers around? Im going to hit up BeesKeys in Dallas on Friday after my work meeting. They sell Ft Knox which is a good brand. Im looking to buy a nicer safe (not Cabelas/Costco/etc). Ft Knox, Amsec, Liberty?, Browning Prosteel?

I ended up with the Amsec Bf with 4ga liner in a gloss finish. I got mine from Thesafeplace.com

I spent a good portion of the day eduacating myself about safes. I've come to realize that I want a bare minimum fire rating of 30 minutes, 18-24 long gun capacity (seems to be a common denominator in configurations) and a mechanical dial lock. I think I've found what I want at Cabelas here : http://www.cabelas.com/product/shoot..._SEQ_104369580

Liberty has a very good reputation, and their pry test video on Youtube pretty much sold me on their locking technology.

                            I'll give them a look.

I'll take a look at the Amsec line and see what I can find that meets my criteria.

I read some pretty bad stuff about those, decided to cross the Costco stuff off the list.

I don't have quite enough cowskin rugs to require a safe of such magnitude.

There are 2-3 other threads about this on the forum where people have put out a lot of opinions. Recommend finding and reading those threads.

I went the Costco route, have it for about 6 years now and don't regret it. We each have to be comfortable with our choice though. Those other threads talk about features, weaknesses and such.
