    Yeah, pisses me off.

We have security, but not armed. We have had people walk into the building without a badge before. If they can make it in, maybe a hostile / violent customer / disgruntled employee will walk in just like in San Bernardino and we will all be sitting ducks. If I wanted to pack, Id park across the street off of company property.

      LABOR CODE
LC §52.061. RESTRICTION ON PROHIBITING EMPLOYEE ACCESS TO OR
STORAGE OF FIREARM OR AMMUNITION. A public or private employer may
not prohibit an employee who holds a license to carry a concealed handgun
under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, who otherwise lawfully
possesses a firearm, or who lawfully possesses ammunition from transporting or
storing a firearm or ammunition the employee is authorized by law to possess in
a locked, privately owned motor vehicle in a parking lot, parking garage, or other
parking area the employer provides for employees.

I edited, there is exceptions: Unless you work for a school or chemical/oil/gas company that has a secure parking area.

But ya, you can tell the company to pound sand, as it violates state law to prohibit you for having a lawful weapon in your car. Unfortunately, there's not a penalty assigned to it, so it'll make for an interesting court case if you were terminated.

They can't prohibit you from doing so (lawful weapon in car). So, in this case, state law trumps HR policy. They'd be firing you for violating an illegal company policy. As said, it'd make for an interesting court case.

My company wanted to implement the same BS, and I photo copied the state laws and all that was pertaining to it and gave it to the plant manager who I assumed talked with legal. The policy never was implemented on to the parking lot, just in the building.

so all they have to say is you brandished it, another employee saw it, etc.

it's no longer concealed at that point, and you break company policy, hence get fired

That's how they can get away with a successful termination.
Luckily I work for a company who did their homework and specifically noted the Texas law in the weapons policy that prevents them from prohibiting guns in locked cars, even though we park behind a locked gate. Kind of nice when I hear all these companies basically breaking the law since fee of them actually meet the exceptions to ban the guns.

On my tablet so you'll have to check the link, but Dallas has had zero 911 calls for open carry. Wonder if anyone has there!
