  • Stoeger 12gauge will not cycle after cleaning

I had a sporting clay fund raiser event today where all the proceeds goes to the senior students/teachers for scholarships and such...anyhow I was in a pinch last night to clean my gun since I haven't cleaned it in a while. I know I didn't clean it after dove season last year. This season I noticed it occasionally wouldn't cycle the second round so I took it apart last night and cleaned the gunk out and oiled it up. I didn't remove the trigger assembly, just the barrel and also opened/closed the action while the barrel was off to clean and oil it.

Now, it will not cycle the second round at all. Out of 50 rounds(before giving up on it) it cycled MAYBE 3 times. The first round ejects, the action closes, and the second round is just sitting on the ramp. Any ideas what it might be? I though maybe I oiled it too much, I knew a I was a little heavy on the oil this time, but if this was to be the case, I figured 50 rounds would blow the excess oil out. There weren't any little parts that came off upon disassembly, just the barrel and fore grip. I also verified that it's seated all the way....

I plan to clean it again and take it out to test but I wanted to see if something like this could be common. TIA

Yeah, i still haven't disassembled it. I hope to get to the dove lease so I can shoot it while troubleshooting.

Try this: (we have almost the same shotgun)

You can tell if it is the same issue/fix by replicating what he is doing at the 2:00 mark.

This year I'm using a case of Rio's. 2 3/4in., 3 DRAM, 1280 fps, 1oz, 7.5 shot. I'm not sure what I used last year, may have been Remington's. I generally try to stay with ammo that is close to 1300 fps because at the time, that is what I found to equal 3 DRAM(which most ammo I've seen doesn't advertise DRAM).

Thanks man, I'll check it out. My action doesn't get stuck open though. It closes and leaves the next round sitting on the ramp.

This sounds like the other common problem with them, the spring binding up and not fully loading the next shell. They will send you a new spring if you hit up customer service.

I came across this suggestion online... call me crazy, but I don't recall ever having to do this in the year that I've shot this gun. Unless I've always done this subconsciously, in which case I would feel like a complete dumbass that I forgot.

"Im not a gunsmith, nor do i claim to be gods gift to shooting. I had this same issue with chambering the 2nd round. How i fixed it, and have since kept doing this, was when you initally load your gun, load 1 in the chamber. load the other two in the mag, and hit the button that releases the next shell to the area below the action."

yeah, while preloading would work, I really don't think that should be necessary. This video clearly shows the shooter just chambering a round, loading two more in the mag and then firing all three rounds. You can also clearly see the silver button by the trigger not pressed. When I press mine, half of the button goes up into the gun. FF to the 3:15 mark
