  • Possible to build ar for $600???

I think I'm finally getting ready to put an ar in 5.56 together. I'm not looking for something that is going to win any internet points or style awards, just something that could be picked up, shot, cleaned, and relied upon to shoot again if needed. The only two things I care about are keeping the barrel to 16", and using flip up sights.

Can it be done for, or near, $600? Links to build parts would be very appreciated.

You could always do any of the kits from PSA. Just need a lower receiver to finish.

Under that if you really shop for deals. You can even buy a completed rifle for about that in some cases, but pretty bare-bones.

It can definitely be done. I would recommend spending the $$$ on a decent barrel, flip up sights can eat up some budget. But as many non wear parts used as you can, sights, grip, stock, etc.

Runner Runner Guns in McKinney had $399 rifle kits and receivers to be purchased separately from mild to wild in stock recently.

Some of those PSA kits just seem really cheap. Like $399? What reasons should I use to avoid something that cheap? What does it not come with that say, the $599 kit does?

Operational wise, what would I notice different in actually shooting it?

I used a PTAC upper for one of mine. To be honest I had zero problems with that 16" flat top, as far as being a good shooter.

I went cheap on my first build and the trigger is what I felt lacked the most.

DSG in fort worth will build you a " custom " lower parts kit. That way you don't have to buy a generic one and then replace all the shit with quality parts.
