Actually the way I see this they are calling social security a form of welfare. If you receive government assistance and are on a fixed budget they want to keep you from wasting money on things like weapons.

How many mentally disabled elderly actually try to buy a gun? How many actually use it? Sounds like a solution looking for a problem. Just more of the same bull...

The key here is "receiving monthly benefits that are managed by “representative payees.” This would include, family members, financial planners, etc. So some person has lost the use of their legs, has their checks sent to their spouse for convenience, they would no longer be able to buy a gun. On the flip side there is no plan to apply this twist of the law to welfare. I would think more people on welfare would meet these standards, "unable to manage their own affairs due to "marked subnormal intelligence, or mental illness, incompetency, condition, or disease”. Isn't the fact you are on welfare proof that you "are unable to manage your own affairs"?

Of course not. The left and liberals in general are all about protected statuses. Welfare and all its recipients are completely protected and insulated. Never mind the fact that this is completely counter to their proclaimed "ideals".
