Questions for everyone, any issues with the fluted chamber and reloading the brass? Brass life seriously diminished or unreloadable?

Without a port buffer they dent the hell out of the neck. They also put deep flutes into commercial 308 brass. 7.62x51 doesnt leave as bad of flute marks.Originally posted by lincolnboyAfter watching Games of Thrones, makes me glad i was not born in those years.

Either way, I wouldn't reload the brass. Anything you shoot out of a 91 chamber is dead brass."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

HK's Customer Service Manager from back in the day says "our official answer to your question is that as long as it is quality brass, and is in good overall shape, it will reload fine.
Inspect as you would any case prior to reloading, and discard any questionable ones."Originally posted by lincolnboyAfter watching Games of Thrones, makes me glad i was not born in those years.

Haha, no, I would disagree, the brass is far too overworked. It's fucking octagonal. Split necks seating bullets, been there done that, no thanks."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

It depends on who made the barrel. My first parts kit 91 guns with surplus barrels I reloaded and the rounds were fine. The rounds I've gotten out of your ptr are very badly overworked, the cases are octagonal, brass is formed into the flutes, grooving the cases. Since this is a thread about PTR's, I would personally recommend people dont reload them.Last edited by CJ; 06-06-2015, 09:43 PM."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

Examples:
^^^^ this is what I've seen coming out of ptr's. These cases ruptured along those grooves at the neck, and at the head. The flutes are too deep and too wide compared to the hk and military barrels.Last edited by CJ; 06-06-2015, 09:46 PM."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

Oh yes, I have seen those guns mangle some brass. On the flip side, I have also seen them produce flute marks that were superficial.
The small the bolt gap the worse it will be. Also, while fairly obvious it should be noted to prospective HK91/clone buyers that commercial .308 is more likely to get fluted than true 7.62x51. Lastly, PTRs with the "GI" barrels as they call them have looser chambers than the standard versions. I have a GI barrel on mine.Originally posted by lincolnboyAfter watching Games of Thrones, makes me glad i was not born in those years.
