Newb question, but what is that based on? Reliability/durability? Accuracy? What else?

I like the XDM because it feels comfortable in my hand (most I've held don't), it seems to have a great reputation for being reliable and durable, it seems to be made of high-quality materials, seems to have pretty good capacity for a 45, and I like the way it looks. Everyone has their preference, obviously, but some of the guns suggested in this thread are ugly to me. Obviously, a gun's performance isn't based on looks, but with so many choices, I don't think it's unreasonable for me to want to purchase a gun that performs well and looks great (to me).

As a coonan or FN, correct. I would take one over a glock any day of the week. I have an SR40 and it is one of my favorite pistols.

Many other people would take one over a Glock as well, the Glock grip is not for everyone. Don't take this as me bashing the Ruger...Like I said, the Ruger SR line of pistols are decent guns. I like them well enough, but when comparing to Glock, Springfield, Sig, they do not have near the aftermarket support, caliber options, or configurations/sizes as the others. They are a great value, have a decent trigger, and are accurate.

Well, that is all very true lol. I haven't modded mine at all, one of the only guns I haven't done anything to. Maybe I will order some Apex parts for it now.
