I'm with you. I couldn't put up with the crap the PD has to deal with today, both internally and from everyone else.

Yeah I refuse to do that. Honestly, times are changing and city management needs to get on board. Like I said in another thread. It's usually the city counsel and managers hammering the Chief. People really don't get that. Don't get me wrong, I am sure there are plenty if chiefs out there that are of the numbers mindset, just not many I have worked with. Contacts yes, breaking it off in your community, no.

It's because they had their ass whipped in high school every day. Writing tickets affects my paycheck zero. Breaking it off in some one, just because you can, could literally ruin some ones life. Start off with a handful of tickets, get arrested because you can't pay them, car gets impounded, you lose your job, lose you house, etc etc. Big picture is what some guys miss. If I stop you because you are speeding and tell you to slow down I have done my job. If I can't cut you break I don't write you. Just speeding, slow down, have a nice day. I will stop for speed and then write for whatever else. Everybody wins!

I listened to a Tom Segura bit about Steven Seagal that made me have an epiphany, SVO is like the Steven Seagal of DFWM! He has done everything, is an expert in everything, and everything he says seems like he just made it up.

So how does the city qualify that your doing your job, and qualify raises? I thought most cities had a performance metric that is partially based on the average of tickets written by the department versus individual officer?

Dallas cop. He followed me from a 7-11 to my post office and talked to me in there. Told me that he had nightmares about my face for years afterwards and thanked me. It is one of the most surreal encounters of my life.

Magnus, I am your father. You need to ask your mother about a man named Calvin Klein.

Of course. Who else would it have been?

Low crime rate, contacts (traffic stops/suspicious people/business checks), reports, response times, etc. Why would tickets being the measuring stick? How about a shift never getting hit with BMV's, Burglaries, ETC. You think Highland Park wants their guys to go break it off on the city? Somewhere down the road tickets became a source of revenue vs a minor corrective action , and then people got greedy. Just like with surcharges. Really that is double dipping in my book. Citys are not supposed to included citation revenue in their yearly budget over a certain percentage, yet I have sure heard them scream in the past when "numbers where down".
