Without my gun hobby. I would cut off my own dick and let the rats eat it...

If it were me, he'd get one warning as a gun was being drawn, and if he made a threat like that, he wouldn't get a warning. He'd get shot.

I don't disagree with this. Intent and belief of serious bodily injury, can be answered with deadly force.

I'd be as judicious and charitable as I could get, but there's not a lot of wiggle room in that situation.

Zimmerman ring a bell? Not saying it is the same, but you would be in hiding for a year or so. If you were a off duty cop they would fry you in the "public court of law" before you ever had a chance. I am not disagreeing with your actions, just stating a fact. Apparently people think that they can do what ever the fuck they want with zero consequences. Not you, but the criminals. Public opinion is slowly swinging the other way though.

There were two videos posted recently and the comments were beating their ass.

One was the brothers that committed theft, threatened the store owners (robbery), and then came after the cop with a skate board. The other was the shooter walking down the street in cuffs, saw the camera, and then hit the ground screaming of brutality.

The Zimmerman comparison was almost exactly what my girlfriend said, and I don't want to shoot anyone, but I'm not going to take a random attack if I can avoid it. If I can draw and get the person to back off, great, but I won't wait too long.

The run and hide, tell the criminal to leave you alone mentality? Or heavy handed policing? I refuse to change my laid back style of LE. I am writing a book on it actually. I think it would do well in these unique times. Maybe some of these newer guys coming into the field could learn from it. I have a recruit that has told me some things he learned at the academy. One guy old him you can't show compassion, all cops have to be serious, people have to respect your authority ETC. I will not share with you my very profane response to that but I just shake my head sometimes. I start in nice and funny, and then when I elevate it gives folks a second thought before I have to get physical. Some guys go hard all of the time and then there is only one step to go to after that.

Oh and for Soap. Good job on staying out of a legal cluster fuck. People that Monday morning quarterback cops, don't get that some days we make ten life changing decisions for maybe you, maybe us, whoever. Yep, some cops are fucking dipshits! However, a lot of guys just make honest mistakes. Between the bazillion page Texas Law and Traffic Code, city policies/ordinances, supreme court decisions, new laws and updates every year etc, it's going to happen. Also when we fuck up there are two investigations. You have a criminal and internal, not to mention lawsuits. Most days I love the job and helping people, catching bad guys etc. But some days I watch the news and just think WTF.

Dude, you walked away and you're here to post about it. You're not in a hospital and you're not talking to police.

Don't second guess yourself; you did well. Have a beer, calm the nerves, and go have a good weekend.

Oh the more serious note, didn't we have a story like that here? Guy that got sprayed ended up becoming a state trooper later on in life. Said the gas scared him straight. Can't remember who posted it though.

It was SVO, he was only a state trooper for like 37 years though.

Heavy handed bullshit. More tickets, more arrests, more stop people who are just walking down the street because "that's suspicious". The exact things that make people hate cops.
