  • Blackout 300

    So..... i recently picked up a blackout 300 ( new ) - Spikes Tactical

What are the pros and cons ?

I see that ammo is expensive. Im leaning towards changing the barrell to a 5.56 .

... Did you not think "hey, I had better check on ammo prices and availability" before buying? That seems prudent to me when buying a new gun.

But 300BLK is like the tribal arm band tattoo of the gun community. People buy them because they are totally rad. Bigger caliber, mo betta, gun store guy said seal-devgru-delta uses them, etc.

    But pros:

    1. Shines out of a short barrel
    2. Suppressed they are great vs suppressed 5.56 subsonic
    3. Can use 5.56 cases and surplus M80 ball stuff to reload it

    Cons:
    1. If you don't reload, dont get a .300blk
    2. Running 300 blk through a 16" gun is retarded
    3. Running 300 blk without a suppressor goes against what the shit was made for
    4. It is like 7.62x39, but more expensive and less powerful

I looked into to the AR prior to the purchase. MY fault, i misconstrued 7.62 x 39 vs the blackout @ 7.62 x 35 ..

      Thanks for the detailed reply.

You really should verify a gun's caliber before buying it.

I read 7.62 and assumed quickly that it was the ak 47 round.
          My scratch .

So you actually bought a 300blk rifle?

I put together a 7.5" 300 pistol and a friend just got his finished up so we've been working on load developments subsonic. I don't have a suppressor yet, but got to shoot his with his can yesterday. Quiet as a subsonic 22 rifle. Sure puts a smile on your face.

Well if you don't reload, you better start. I got into reloading because I wanted a 300blk rifle. Mine is a 8" pistol that will be getting sbr'd eventually as well as a can. Hell I may form 1 the lower this week. Anyway, cheapest I can find factory ammo in the stores is $1.10 per round for supersonic. Subs are much higher. I can reload supers for about .62 per round if I buy the brass every time. When I reuse brass it drops to something like .45 per round for supers which is approaching the cost of factory loaded 5.56 ammo, and all that is without buying shit in bulk online so I haven't gotten close to the cheapest loads yet. I got set up with a lee turret press and everything needed for loading 5.56 and 300blk for about $500. After about 1000 rounds of 300blk the press will be paid for, so it is worth doing.

I can not get factory subs to cycle in my gun unsupressed so I am loading only supers until figure out which can to order. So far I have had very good luck with a variety of super loads, factory and the hand loads I am using right now. It is a very fun gun to shoot and I can't wait to get this guy silenced.

I've got a bunch of 1x fired converted 300 brass if anyone is interested. I've got @ 600 pieces I likely won't be using. Cleaned, deprimed, trimmed to 1.360 +\- .005, swaged. It was converted on Dillon 1050.

Im reading that i can swap the barrel for a 5.56 , being that all the parts of the rifle are AR15 parts, Is this correct ?

How hard is it to do ? Is there an economic route to do this ?

I plan on selling the 300 blk barrel if i do this

Barrel and I believe gas system as well; for some reason I am thinking the block and gas tube are different. Bcg, upper, handguards, etc should all be good to go.

I've got the tools to do it if you find a 5.56 barrel to swap.

                              Thanks Nick...

Ill keep that in mind. Currently researching everything.
I might just try and trade for a 5.56 -

Dont like the cost of Ammo on this thing, and the scarcity.
