The pop was 7.3 more than 10 years ago, for greater DFW.

Yes, but they will be able to go without food longer, but also go thru what they have at a faster rate. They seem to be the most likely to die fast, all things considered.

I have both, and they are ok, but they're not going to be of much use for what he proposes. And a Sawzall needs some sort of lead in or you'll break blades all day. They won't work well on brick...and don't last terribly long on steel.

Do they make ones that are silent throughout their entire operation? You're going to die if you try opening up some house with some damn power tool lol. You'd never even know what hit you

Damn I just hope I never see any of this even something small. I'd be one of the first to go, honestly. I have no group or family and would likely do something stupid thinking it was in my best interest of defense and get killed off in the panic phase early. Plus, I'm white and live in da hood. R.I.P.

          • A group of us had a meeting when the Ebola scare got people to talking. 6 families, 300 acres connected to 3-500 more, 3 lakes, 25k rounds over multiple platforms. We had two guys that knew how to rotate crops and deal with the livestock, and two mechanics, every one had a purpose and most people over lapped their skill with someone else. We have plenty of stock piled dry foods, seeds, water, filtering systems, etc. We even talked about getting some high power windmills for the farm houses but haven't messed with that yet. We are not going to wait until the SHTF, as that will be too late. We have specific triggers and we all agreed to bail out no questions asked. Plenty of meds, hygiene items, etc have also been stock piled. I even have a g ride that has points so I would still have transportation. Who knows how well it will go if something happens. I just know that it is better than no plan at all. Plus its a nice place to hunt and vacation on the week ends! We just buy a little bit at a time and it really doesn't affect any one much. I think the damn windmill was 30k or something for a decent one and batteries.

Missing the point that modern houses arent fortified, and can be easily entered through destructive means

No Im playing the obvious foil to the ridiculous idea that in a bug out situation people will survive. The best laid plans will goto shit, things beyond anybodies control will happen, and the evil that lies in some peoples hearts will be set free. That chaos paired with whatever disaster is big enough to cause a bug out will destroy most if not all planning and preparations.

Prepping and planning for such events is a power and control fantasy, that while fun, is time wasted. I'm not saying people shouldnt prep for localized event such as being iced in and tornados. But those are boring, as they are realistic events that dont require making the choice of 300 blackout or 5.7 for long term survival against rampaging rabid biker gangs, flying monkeys, and the eldritch horrors summoned forth by Cthulhu.

                  • i liked that bosnia article. already read much argentina stuff.
Bosnia is obviously the worst case scenario. Complete siege
                    LOL jeez that is terrible!
I'm just happy to say I didn't have a lot of surprises after reading it .
my take away was definitely would be nice to have some things to trade with, and generally confirms my plan of being about to support extended family for up to about 3-6 months at most. You would be surprised how much shit is needed the more people you need to plan for. Mostly because people are too stupid to plan in the slightest for themselves, for literally ANYTHING. These are so many dumbasses in our society right now like this, it makes it exponentially worse when just about anything bad happens.
Think about it, vast majority of ppl are too stupid to even fix anything themselves!

                    holes needing filled :

i needed more lighters than i thought. I priced those and holy fuck bic lighters are expensive (.80 each for big ones), so I got 250 shitty ones for 45$.bic lighters did have the best reputation for good long storage though.

still need to finish FAK's, might as well order antibiotics in a larger quantity than i had intended

add some candles , not too hot on the idea of spending 70$ on 400 tea candles, but reality would dictate batteries are a precious commodity and would not last too long.
Atleast candles never go bad...vs lighters. Have to make sure the wife would use tea candles and really thinks they will burn for 7 hours each 'in the right container'.

more food, hard to beat this, quality is the real key too. when it's dangerous out, do you want to go searching for food ?

better water containers and pool shock , already have filters that are good

maybe stock more hygiene related items, more ppl would mean these would go faster.

John I promise you houses can be defended. They aren't designed for that, but they can be modified to help it. It's all about solid fortifications and early warning to alert enough armed members to defend it. Any team can be overwhelmed of course by enough crazies, but if you start putting them down quick they may change their mind. Also another good point is not to communicate to people that 'come around' . you have nothing to say to them , they have nothing to say to you (that you can do anything about). Why do think they met in common areas in that bosnia article ?
I welcome your portable saw, because you would never even reach the siding!

If all people were deaf, and nobody had ears, you'd have a valid point. Beyond that you're dead trying to use a circular saw to get into a house with armed people inside. I'm not sure what is so hard to understand about this...
