Man this has always blown my mind. Especially with people who plan to actually BO and leave home base.

Good post, Doc. This is comparable to what I read in the book I linked to, but Argentina didn't get as bad as Bosnia. This is the type of scenario I think is the most possible, not complete end of the world, mass evacuations, mad max for 30 years. You have any recommendations for books other people have written about similar experiences in Bosnia or Argentina or any other collapse? The real experience stories are much more interesting than the fiction ones.

Solid post. I've always figured there was massive importance in the banding together of neighbors you know well. I have a few neighbors that would be of the utmost importance, or I would just lock up with the family. My immediate family are phenomenal shots, and my neighbor is a combat veteran to one side, and a nurse on the other. It would be tough, and maybe not doable, but I know my chances are higher than most.

Also, lighters are actually one thing I have a lot of. For both camping and possible shtf. Batteries as well..but maybe not 6 months.

But truthfully, I just don't think it'll ever happen here. I just can't imagine it lasting for anything over a few days or weeks.

I have food, but not 6 months.

At least its entertaining to imagine.

Regardless of anyone's plan, we will all die. Hunger, dehydration, and fatigue will win. Not if but when.

Edit: and disease from all the dead laying around already

Everybody's gonna die eventually...but were not all planning for long term complete collapse.

Generators and solar panels are 2 things I always imagined would be a bigger pain to keep than to just never use.

I would think in a SHTF scenario, solar panels would be a huge liability. ANYONE would target them immediately at all costs, and they're going to be visible.

Generators as well. If you had fuel, the noise would draw people to you really fast.

Yep...even the quiet Honda inverter ones will seem loud when there's no ACs running, road noise or whatever else

I don't think its nearly that high. I'm thinking 50-60%% at most. People have a strong tendency to just adapt. That's what opec found out the hard way in the 70s. People just started using less fuel. Oh well, the world isn't coming to an end. Myself, for example. My cell phone and internet connection would take on the importance level of the TP I just wiped my ass with, I wouldn't give two shits about that until years later. Sure I'd miss it, but there are far more important things at hand in that situation.

I think only the stupid masses are going to bite it. The brainless, the mindless, a whole lot of sean's dindu's are going to be gone. The old, the very young, the infirm, etc. Most of those will die.

Ugh. I'd like to avoid it if possible. But I'd eat a slug if it meant surviving. Probably cook it first though.

The only amount of time I have spent prepping is for a 3 day freeze in, spending anymore time than that isnt realistically looking at the odds of any events happening and the likelihood of survival.

as for entry into your house a cordless circular saw can be charged from any generator or car. The house is then approached around 4am from the corner where the dryer outlet is placed, a piece of rubber is stuffed into the outlet and lit on fire. While you are dealing with that one of my minions is climbing on the roof and cutting through the roof. have fun fighting of my band of radioactive mutant zombie bikers that then crash through your ceiling.
BTW...you watch too much TV. If I'm not mistaken...thats a scene in panic room. Literally none of what you have mentioned at all in this thread will work. And you've obviously never used a cordless circular.

                              • They make battery powered circular saws now. You can also get a sawz all.... there is a reason for their name. You can cut a car in half with one if you desire.
