No your not, unless you live in medieval walled town , you will have people wondering the town and most likely looting. Can your small town survive more than 4 days without food? Most grocery stores only stock enough food for just a couple days worth of food then they are restocked by a supply truck. Where does that supply truck come from? Its often from the metro, and it has to drive on the same roads that are clogged with evacuees and abandoned cars. Where does your power, gas and water come from odds are they are linked together.

If DFW evacuates, lots of people are dying.

I 100% agree lots of people are dying. Just not the same people, in the same amounts. Everyone in a nursing home or seriously injured in a hospital is toast. All the ignorant masses who are barley aware of their own existence are toast after a short time.

Absolutely small towns can survive that long without foot. Both my neighbors on each side of me hunt and fish. I fish and could easily hunt because I'm so equipped. We've got survivor seeds in the freezer, which would be quickly broken out and planted. People would come together (well the good people anyway) and form bands of the types who just want to live in peace. These people don't just mysteriously evaporate because the SHTF.

People walking and looting will be killed. If not, why didn't this run rampant in the past, when we didn't have phones and radio and the police? When you had to rely on the goodwill of your fellow man not to just come out to your farm and butcher you and your family for what little you had? Of course that kind of thing happened, but we're all still here aren't we? Those types of bandits were eventually hung or killed by someone. They don't receive some kind of immortality just because the society has collapsed.

Blocking off the main roads and posting hidden guards near them would be all it would take to keep people out of your town, or meter the flow. You going to walk 70 miles to get into my town? Or were you thinking of driving? Well, you're walking. Good luck ever making it. There are people with gardens in their backyards practically everywhere. They'd sell or trade or even just share seeds and everyone would could work towards their next meal. Got by fine on that method for 100's of thousands of years, I have no doubt it would still work. Who needs power, gas, and electricity when your concern (for the near future anyway) is just getting to eat? If I'm worrying about that, I don't give a flying fuck about power gas or electricity. You don't fly into a panic and start shooting. As soon as it starts you get to talking to all your neighbors and forming a plan.

Basically it is foolish to choose anything except a compact, light AR15. Ammunition, parts, magazines, etc. are and will be everywhere. Plan accordingly.

"That's quite far enough. We are many and all well armed. We have no extra supplies for anyone other than in this structure. Be on your way. You have been warned."

Just how I'd do it. I'm sure it is flawed, but I could live with myself if they chose to continue towards my door.

A perfectly valid warning. Any fool who doesn't heed that deserves death. The world demonstrates even now that it has no place for stupid.

You still dont get it. There wont be any fish and game to catch. The food shortage will drive everybody to hunt and fish. The game thats not killed will scared away by the amount of hunters and survivalist evacuees moving through the country side. And gardens dont start producing in just days, and not to mention it has to be the right season to get a garden to grow.

                          So much this.

I love the "well, I will just be hunting and fishing my way to safety!".
Because you are totally the only person who will be doing that shit.

Does your literary device describe how hungry you'll be when you aren't willing to trade with others?

So my plan of taking all of our campers (19', 12' popup, 16' Casita) to Colorado now looks bleak and hopeless.

                              Thanks guys.

On a side note, I really need to get some freeze dried foodages. Maybe:

It doesnt take much breach a modern house, and it can be done in such a matter that the occupants may never realize until after they have intuders inside the walls

What community? If the DFW area is evacuating all law and order will goto shit. Evacuees will constantly flood any community, welcoming them in will create a larger burden on already strained resources, and dismissing them can lead to hostility. Approaching a strange community will also likely get the evacuees robbed of any resources they have, and possibly killed.
Lol have you seen the modern construction of air? Trying to intrude a house with anything less than an Abrams or small army is stupid and you will not win out. Especially since you've shot everyone in the back simply for leaving the metroplex. My house is solid stone so it'll stop any small arms fire...

I'm guessing you wouldn't make it far
