Carbon fiber is a composite...unless you want to buy a bunch of string. That's kinda like saying something is metal not aluminum. That lower is just a carbon fiber reinforced plastic which means there is chopped fiber disperses in a polymer. I would think NFA did carbon, aramid or fiberglass reinforcing as well. The ones I've played with felt like it was carbon or aramid.

How heavy are the aluminum cast lowers? I don't like my friends composite lower, but I am thinking of building a lightweight AR.

Aluminum lowers are about 5oz more...so 1/3 of a lb. That can be a lot for some people and negligible for others depending on use.

Possibly...not always. Carbon fiber is also not always the best composite to use so there is a chance it's not carbon fiber as well. This is why I would definitely think aramid is possible.

Regardless...they are both composite lowers.

Edit: let me expand on why they may not advertise reinforcing material. That is probably considered proprietary information, as is the polymer they used. If they think they figured something out that others haven't....they will keep that information proprietary. Its commonly done in most industries.
