Optic Help Please

Bought a 23" Vepr .308, and need to decide on an optic. Shooting will be done in the 100-500 yard range (mostly), and I really don't want to spend more than $500 on the glass. Leaning toward POSP in either 6x or 8x by 42. They are built like tanks and include the AK mount. If I go with Western glass, I am leaning toward the Nikon 308. The POSP runs about $300 w/ mount included. The Nikon is about $500 and I still have to mount it. Just looking for opinions.

Check out the SWFA SS 10x42. 30mm tube, built like a tank (weight about the same...), but the glass put a lot of scopes costing twice as much to shame.

They are around $300 if I remember correctly.
