So yeah, you might have a tough time field stripping one - if you're a beginner.

I am a 1911 beginner. But, I just hate seeing people say that Glock's are junk. I really don't see anything to back that up.

And BTW, the glock doesn't come with a field stripping tool, lol.

Did anyone say that they were junk? I must have missed that post.

There is absolutely no way in hell I'd trade a glock + a J frame in good shape for a run of the mill kimber.

Who knows, maybe it was just the one I had.
I've never had a jam or fte in either one of my colts. Me and vader put 200 rounds through my delta and it had 200 previous without a clean, no issues. I think it depends on the maker.

They are very dependable and accurate. They are also very ugly, have no safety, and in my opinion are the most uncomfortable shooting pistol made. After 100 rounds my wrist feels better from my .44 mag than my glock 17.

Damn, I might have jumped the gun a little bit, lol. I guess they are just for some people.

And CJ, sorry to hear about your 17, but whenever you are ready to sell it, let me know. I'd like to have one.

I have a ham sandwich for anyone who has a glock to trade for it! Will include a chip or green olive for each round included and a courtesy soda (FREE!! SODA!!).

I don't get the hating on all these different guns. Every gun mentioned here is a good gun IMO. Based off CJs rep and what he posts otherwise, if I were a complete noob I'd want to believe the Glocks are terrible. I've owned one for going on 10 years and it is the weapon I practice the most with and no FTFs in any way. So, figure around (it's actually harder then I thought to come up with a ballpark round count after the first 100 or so. ) 1000 or 1500 rounds maybe, plus what other yahoos have shot through it. Finish is still great on it and overall it is a good looking gun still. Like any gun it has some tweaks that it can use out of the box that make it nicer.

To the OP, IMHO those other two guns seem to be found cheaper (read, not cheap) when used. It seems to me Kimbers don't lose value unless actually broken or something when being sold. I know I'm being overly simplistic though and talking if you shop around w/o being in a rush. Also, my analysis is if you want those guns to have, which seems like you're doing a crazy trade and such.

Thanks for all the feedback. I think I will take my pistols to the FtWorth Gunshow Saturday and see if I can get a nice Colt.

A good Colt is going to cost you a bit more than a comparable Kimber. I know people like to hate on Kimbers, but they are good value for the money. Same goes for STI and Dan Wesson 1911's. If you are willing to broaden your choice a little. S&W makes a great pistol.

You're not going to get any decent offers from vendor at the show. New J-frams are going for $350 at the shows so I can only imagine what you'll be offered.

I'm not sure about your Glock as I've never really priced them.

I agree, I never bag on glocks from a reliability and functionality aspect. They are certainly a great weapon and is very reliable. I just feel they due to glock's design goals (lightweight, easy to draw, service weapon) it has some very undesirable consequences. Primarily the reason I don't care for glocks is how they are balanced, or should I say unbalanced. All the weight is in the action, and it's cyclic weight. The rest of the gun is very lightweight polymer. The result is a lightweight gun, but the consequence is it transfers a very high level of recoil back and rotates your wrist as the fulcrum. Glock tried to counter this by increasing the grip angle, which makes it even more odd to me. In my opinion it makes them quite uncomfortable to shoot, I just don't enjoy it. And because it was primarily designed as a service weapon it has minimal extrusions and complexity - which makes it pretty boring and ugly looking imho. I would certainly trust my life to one, but I'd rather be found dead with a jammed 1911 in my hands.

I'm a pretty big guy, very large hands. The only issue I ever had with a glock was the Glock 20, a 10mm round, as I shot, it chewed my hand up to the point that I didn't like the gun. I did not touch a glock for 12 years. Recently a buddy of mine became a cop and he is issued the glock 22 the 40mm round. I shot it not too long ago and I am starting to change my negative opinion on it. I think for me I would have to get the glock 21, 45 ACP.

The 1911 is not an easy gun to field strip, I agree with this. But I still love mine.

I disagree. I just clean mine and don't do much of anything else to it. More maintenance is involved on my Remmy 870 shotgun as I have to disassemble it much further for cleaning.
