I'd carry my M1A around, but it's too damn heavy which is why I'm seriously considering a Ruger Gunsite Scout in 308. I can hunt near anything with it, and 10 rounds is more than enough to lug around. I wonder if they make a 5 rd magazine for it yet?

I know Yale got a CZ in 7.62X39. Honestly, I'm a bit jealous. That is about the perfect rifle for varmints, pigs and TX sized deer.

I have a ruger scout. Ditch the metal mag it comes with and pick up an aftermarket composite. They make 3, 5 and 10 round. I like the 5 but own some 10 as well. It has been a great rifle. I will be buying a Tika t3 lite stainless in 300 winmag later this year as a larger game/longer distance setup.

I really like my winchester model 70 in .270 . It is a great caliber and shoots flatter than others so you can be off on yardage and still be in kill zone
