  • .45 supressors

I finally got my 5.56 suppressor in and now I want a .45 for my 1911.

I really dig the way the Silencerco osprey looks, but I'm not sure it's the best one.

Which suppressors do you guys have and how do you like them?

I've got the Octane 45HD and love it.

YHM has a good one. My dad has it on his glock 45 acp. Works really well and cheaper than the others. Breaks down for cleaning easily too.

CJ also recommends the Octane. I keep a spreadsheet of things to buy. The Octane is awesome because you can get different threaded adapters and use it on a lot of different calibers up to 45 ACP.

              Why the osprey is good:
              • looks cool
              • due to the asymmetrical design you can quickly identify if the can is loosening
              • light

              Why the osprey isn't good:
              • not serviceable
              • not full auto rated
              • not able to fit inside handguards
              • looks silly on anything but semi auto pistols
              • vents gas at seam
              • has to be clocked each time, if it rotates it can obstruct sights during shooting
              • due to slight variations on clocking, POI can shift.
              • two different finishes/colors don't match

I've shot several ospreys, and I think they look good on USP's. They are pretty quiet, one of the best performers. My personal experience has been the asymmetrical design doesn't really give you much more clearance with iron sights. The sights on a sig p226 tactical dont clear, for example. You cant service the can, so forget about cast bullets. But really the biggest downside is it cant fit inside any rifles handguard, and it looks silly on there.

The octane is the best 45 can available imho. It's full auto rated, serviceable, fits in handguards, only 12oz, uses osprey adapters and pistons, and it's slightly quieter than the osprey. It's better than other 45 cans because it has stainless baffles, which means you can dip it.

So should I set up a trust before ordering one of these?

order, pay, wait for delivery (if dealer does not have in stock), pay $200 and mail copy of trust, wait 4 months.

You can order first, do trust after. If it's in stock, you'll want the trust beforehand, your choice.

                    Well, I'm sold. Thanks!

I'm probably going to SBR my AR at the same time.

Osprey does the same thing, they actually use the same interchangeable piston system.
