Training should not be mandated, IMO.

Unless we implement a "belt system" like with marital arts, anyways. That way I can spend thousands of dollars to get my gun-fu down, and be a 5th degree blackbelt!

A bit extreme. There is no reason the chl class shouldn't incorporate a basic handgun class. Ask Probie about having a loaded gun pointed at him at our chl class. Hell we can skip the training and just make the qual more difficult- then people will have to be competent to pass.

It was intentional, of course. But that is just as extreme as what you were suggesting, to some people.

BTW, If there was no qual associated with the CHL class, Probie wouldn't have had a gun pointed at him.

The way it is, there should be no qual because it doesn't do shit anyway. You cannot fail.

I agree. But to me the answer is not to mandate more training, rather, it is to eliminate the useless "qualification".

Oh, and we don't all need to go through tactical training either. Basic gun safety would do most people the best, but even then, you are still relying on idiots to follow what they were taught. We can't even get "highly" trained law enforcement to do that, though. How many times have you heard about an LEO with an accidental discharge..

I am a fan of licensed carry, and I do think there should be a class. But the shooting qual as it stands is a joke. Get rid of it or make it harder. At this point it is a feel good thing.

With liberty, comes personal responsibility, and you can't legislate that.

I just dont want the figures scewed when someone gets shot by said homies whom are carrying regardless if they are legal or not.

They will use it agaist us later.

If you are not a felon and simplify the process. Basically just do the shooting portion of the test. You will find out right then and there who needs more instruction.

Someone pointed on hunter saftey. Its a great program normally targeted at youths. I dont feel it should change at all. It is long and boring sometimes but you only have to do it once.

I do agree with Hunter Education / Safety with youths. Just like mandated drivers ed when getting a license under 18. I went through hunters safety and learned a lot. I can see adults having to go through it too, but for them, just to make sure they understand the laws associated with hunting.

That is the only reason I am for some training for a CHL. It's a good opportunity for students to learn what they can and can't do and remain in compliance with the law. But I am against actual "mandated" shooting training.
