  • Knife Sharpening

What do you guys use? I have kitchen knives, pocket knives, axes/tools that always need work. Is going with a set of stones the best bet?

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

Work sharps do work well but nothing replaces stones and a strop.

I use my worksharp the most on cheap things or bigger like lawn blades or shovel etc.

If i care about the knife stones and strop only

Real men sharpen their own knives.
I don't like Republicans, but I really FUCKING hate Democrats.

You remember the stories John use to tell us about the the three chinamen playing Fantan? This guy runs up to them and says, "Hey, the world's coming to an end!" and the first one says, "Well, I best go to the mission and pray," and the second one says, "Well, hell, I'm gonna go and buy me a case of Mezcal and six whores," and the third one says "Well, I'm gonna finish the game." I shall finish the game, Doc.

I use a chef choice 130 to sharpen my kitchen knives, and then a sharpening rod between.

I have an advantage we have special grinders that my grandfather set up and have all stuff to make knives. I will see if I can get a couple pictures of a couple of the knifes he made that I have.

after seeing the pictures I really need to clean and oil these things.

WorkSharp is a "brainless" knife sharpener (almost self-proof).
The sharpener systems that hold the knife in a vise and use guide rods
are pretty great too for smaller knives at the expense of time.

                    Worksharp is best.

Worksharp for kitchen knives or to get a working edge on a new knife. Lansky to put a fine edge back on. Diamond sharpener for in the field.

In the kitchen I have some grinder/with fine finishing parts for the women to use and to get it done fast.

For my personal knives I use a bench sander with 800 grit to get it started then finish with various stones and finalize it with ceramic.

None of what I do with my knives is quick, but is therapeutic to me while drinking beer and watching doomsday prep shows and other neckbeard TV. Sometimes I'll put on Rambo music, tie on a bandanna and then start sharpening.

I have a buddy who does custom saddles and other leather work. Dude is a beast on knife sharpening.

My EDC is D2 steel, and I can NEVER get an edge on it that I'm happy with, so I let him sharpen it for me.

He uses a high speed bench grinder. Not sure what wheels he has on it. I know he uses some sort of compound/paste on the last step.

Thankfully this thing holds a good edge and I only have him sharpen it a couple times a year
