Waking to my car getting off work. That's why I don't let em get close to me. and I make sure if I'm wearing a jacket i'll leave it Unzipped so I can have easier access to my gun. 99% of the times it's just Drunks wanting some beer money.
But you never know.

If you practice you can tuck a J frame in your hand under your arm with your arms folded and it is not visible. You can also fire it from inside of a jacket pocket but it will catch your jacket on fire. A knife is better at getting someone off of you then a gun is; this is assuming that it has already gotten physical. Getting slashed by a knife that is designed to slash hurts A LOT more then getting shot from what I have seen.
