Get a real leather gun belt, not a thick regular belt. Gun belts will have better stitching and reinforced leather (2 piece laminated design).
I've got a Crossbreed gun belt and a Uncle Mike's Reinforced Instructor Belt. My Crossbreed I wear 95% of the time CCW (pretty much anytime I'm out of the house) and the Mike's for training and 5% CCW. Both are extremely comfortable and hold the gun just fine at my 3:30-4 position IWB CB-Supertuck, 4" XD40. My common attire for CCW is pants/shorts with an undershirt and XL shirt on top. Winter, I still IWB, but let the coat or vest be the concealing agent.
Being a new CCW, it will FEEL awkward and does take time getting used to the feeling. If you have a quality gun belt, most of the brick feeling is in your head, versus your pants coming down. My $0.02.
