It's gonna piss of a lot of the tacticool people out there, but the difference between a $400 AK and a $1000 AK is minimal. I could say the same for ARs. People love to overspend when it comes to firearms. I'm guilty of it too when it comes to my Colt 1911s, but honestly you can find similar or just as good 1911s for a whole lot less. I'm about to drop some serious coin on a 10mm 1911 but not a Delta because I want a fully supported barrel which means high end gun crafters....

When it comes to firearms and automobiles it's a lot like fashion... sometimes you are paying a lot more just for the name.

Trust me all those camel fuckers out there killing millions with AKs don't give a shit where their AK was made only nutjobs posting on internet forums think that means something.

Would you buy a Russian car? Would you buy a Bulgarian car? Nope, you wouldn't drive either because better cars are made in Mexico. So what makes everyone think a Russian AK is so special? If I'm going to drop a major wad of cash on an AK style rifle it's going to be a 308 Galil because if I really had to go to war I want to be shooting 308W, 10mm and 00 buck at any bad guys that come near me.

Some guns do offer more. Take a Yugo M70AB1 or AB2. They have tritium night sights, RPK LMG trunion, 1.5mm (50% thicker) receiver, bolt hold open, and a gas cut off.

They are all going to shoot the same, basically (see: not accurate). But, some variations are much better than others as I gave an example above. I have 6 AK's, I've got one of every flavor just about. The differences are much less important if you just need a rifle and have $400. That makes perfect sense. But if you want the best, or if you want some of the most versatile guns, there are differences. Do you need this stuff? Not if you don't even own a rifle to begin with.

I have a few Russian Saiga AK's. It's not about quality, or anything like that. It's about collectability. They are the original rifle, by the original country. That's all there is to it. They will be more valuable and appreciate.
