  • The Second Battle of Adobe Walls

After seeing the thread on 45-70 it made a neuron in my brain fire and I remembered an article in Precision Shooting from years ago. The article was about The Second Battle of Adobe Walls in which a buffalo hunter was claimed to have shot an Indian off his horse at 1 mile. Precision Shooting set out to see if they could reporduce the shot and low and behold they did! They were able to make several hits on a horse and rider sized target with a rolling block rifle ( I don't remember the caliber). Here's a lil more about the battle

    Probably a 45-90 or 45-110

The .45-70/.45-90/.50-110 is incredible at long ranges. I've seen 60yo guys hitting 10" plates at 1500yds. I'd like to see the article.

It is even more incredible when you consider that most are using home cast bullets with a very wide meplat and iron sights. I have never tried long range shooting with a 45/70 but it is defiantly on my bucket list.

A 50-90 Sharps sounds painfully awesome.
