I am thinking of my next firearm and I really am interested in a lever-action rifle. I have shot a lever .22 in the past, but was more interested in a larger caliber such as the 45-70 or 30-30. Anyone have any experience, or can point me one way or the other? Thanks!

Price 45-70 ammo. That usually does the convincing.
It's a slow, heavy round, and trying to improve that will kick the crap out of you. It is gun to watch the bullet drop on the way to a 100 yard target.
I would take a vintage Gatlin gun in that variety if I win the lottery to pay for ammo.sigpic18 F150 Supercrew - daily

.45-70 is a great cartridge only if you reload. The brass is not expensive and since it is a pretty low pressure cartridge it will last quite awhile. I shoot home cast bullets almost exclusively out of my Marlin and that makes for some cheap shooting. It also performs nicely with a wide variety of powders many of which I already kept on hand for other cartridges. It also has enough penetration to safely take any game on earth including dangerous game.Magnus, I am your father. You need to ask your mother about a man named Calvin Klein.

I have a really well kept 1895 Marlin chambered in .450 Marlin (similar to 45-70) I might sell. It's a novelty for the most part as ammo is expensive.
It needs a rear site but functions perfectly and the furniture is in really nice condition. I bought it from a guy where it sat in a closet for YEARS and it has done the same thing in my safe. I think I have put 10 rounds through it.
$250 would pry it out of my hands along with about 50 rounds of ammo. Walnut furniture and blued action and barrel.
I'll be in dallas around the first of the year and could meet up to sell.
