  • 12" SXS Shotgun

Hypothetically speaking, what forms/fees would be involved if I wanted to take a SXS shotgun and cut it down to say 10 - 12". E.G. the Ithica Auto/Burglar.

I've always wanted a gun like Jerry Reed had in Gator, just curious what's involved paperwork wise.

$200 tax stamp on a form 1 as a short barrel shotgun, that's assuming you already have a trust setup

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

Why would I need a trust?

Can you get a CLEO sign off on a Form 1/4? If you can't or don't want to mess with them at all, go with a trust.

And a pistol grip shotgun with a short barrel would be a $5 stamp for an AOW.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

The Cleo signature will be no problem.

The way I understand it, if it was produced with a pistol grip you can classify it as a AOW, if it was originally produced with a typical buttstock you have to register it as a short barreled shotgun.

It's from the movie "Killing Them Softly"...
                    Not a bad movie.

That would be if he is buying one maufactured already as an AOW, otherwise if he's making it himself it's the $200 price on a form 1.

If it starts life as a shotgun (smooth bore with a stock) and you shorten it, it's a short barrel shotgun

If it starts life without a stock then it must maintain an overall length equal to or greater than 26". If you go below that number the ATF considers it "capable of being concealed on the person" and it falls under NFA definitions as an AOW.

Good thread. Not near that short but I'm about to send in my $5 check.

Remington 870 done by scattergun tech. My dad is a recently retired dealer and I've been going thru his leftovers.

Nice, however, since it was modified, wouldn't that count as an SBS instead of an AOW?
