I plan on taking my tikka to get threaded but I'm curious if is necessary to separate the action from the barrel? I read that they charge more though I'm not sure this is necessary to thread the barrel. I have pulled everything apart with the exception of the barrel and action housing.

Anyone know for sure if this is necessary to have the barrel threaded?

Yes you need to supply only the barrel. It's common practice to charge a premium if you make the gunsmith do it. Some smiths have jigs that allow them to do it with the action attached, but that has a premium as well.

On second thought, I'll just pay to have it done. About how much more is it, anyone?
