  • FFL transaction protocol

After your firearm has been delivered who usually initiates contact?
Do you contact the FFL to request a meeting time?
Or wait on the FFL to contact you?

    thanks

They usually call you when it's in stock, or the shipper should. If not, check with the shipper. Always get a tracking number.

A good FFL should call you. Give them time to check the gun into the books. Remember that these people are busy and that sometimes it will take more than a couple of hours to give you a call.

Might be a good idea to call the FFL if you haven't heard from him/her by the next day.
I have received a gun without the owners name in it. It took me a day or so to backtrack to the sending FFL in order to identify the owner of the gun. But as stated above a good FFL will call you.

I have had them contact me pretty quick in every case. I think they receive the firearm and want to get it off their books to you about as bad as you want it too. They have to fill out their log book taking custody of the firearm, figure out who it belongs to, and then contact you. Thanks to UPS and good communication it happens fast these days. Now USPS is a totally different deal.... I'm not sure I trust those guys.

I can vouch for the DOHCTR being a good FFL. He gets the info to the dealer / store / other FFL quickly and notifies you once it arrives. He is also pretty flexible for pickup hours wise. Honestly buying firearms on gunbroker and going through him has been easier and less hassle than the perp walk at Academy and you get a better deal and more selection.

I'm going to be buying some surplus used firearms this year to work on and refinish in my gunsmithing classes and I can't imagine doing it any other way than gunbroker and using a local FFL.
