I can also get it from carry portion if I had to without having to unbuckle just not as fast.
I've been intending to mount a holster on the side of my console, just been lazy.

    God bless.
Every truck should have a koozie in the door pocket and if you're in West Texas it was probably free and has an oilfield service company name on it.

Same way I always carry, my right back pocket. If Im getting robbed, I'm reaching for my wallet, as far as they know.

David's console thread had some good ideas:

Anyone know of a company or ideas for mounting a holster to the center console of a truck? Gun sliding around gets a little annoying.

i would avoid the console from experience.

was at a local arbys for lunch while at work(no carry time.) as i was getting in the truck a car came flying around the building with an ehnic gentleman yelling from it. i was roughly 30-40 yards from the car when it rounded the corner. by the time i could get in the truck, retrieve my gun, and draw up the guy might have been 10 ft away. he hit the ground and started backpeddling saying he just wanted directions. i knew better, he jumped out of the car before it stopped and left the door open in the process. just my .02

So wait.. Unless I'm reading this incorrectly, although it took a minute, you were able to get to your gun and draw down on the guy, and prevented any shenanigans? Sounds more like it worked.

Seriously though, I see your point, but what alternative would have worked better for you in your situation? If in the door pocket or mounted to the side of the console it would have been easier to get to, but would also be visible when entering and exiting the vehicle, which is a no-no. What do you do with it now when it cannot be on your person?

To me the real question is, can you access your gun from it's concealed position, and if not, what are the best alternatives.

You can remove from your person when entering and exiting the vehicle, and place it in a more accessible place.
Pro: Gun is more accessible than on your person.
Con: May be difficult to do every time you enter / exit the vehicle depending on how you carry (without exposing it).

You can carry a second gun in the vehicle so that your carry piece stays on you, but you have easier access to the vehicle gun.
Pro: Don't have to dick with your carry gun. Easier access.
Con: you are then left leaving a gun in your vehicle when you are away from it (could get stolen).

As to where you keep it in your vehicle (if other than on your person), keeping it outside of the console (door / between seat and console) makes it very accessible, but also possibly visible. And if visible, then you will need to remove it from that spot for concealment when exiting the vehicle.

I would also keep in mind that the more you are forced to handle it (moving it from person to vehicle and back, or center console to door pocket and back, etc) just increases the chances of an accidental discharge. I mean, I know we are all perfect on here, and will never have an accidental discharge. But for those that aren't as great as us, this is something to consider. Especially when you do it over extended periods of time and put less and less conscious thought towards it.

I don't know if there is one best solution. It all depends on a number of variables. I find it more valuable for people to present all of their ideas and the audience can then pick what works the best for them. But trying to say which is best for each person will be nearly impossible.

so, how about you leave your primary carry concealed, then your backup carry you move to a more accessible location in your car.

Good idea for those that carry 2.

Either would have been much easier/faster. My truck wasn't lifted or anything either. Just sat high enough to gain console access you had to climb into it.

I keep mine on me in my normal carry position. If I'm getting robbed, I'm pulling my wallet out for all the crook knows. If for whatever reason I'm caught off guard and I'm forced out, my gun is still with me. I always keep my doors locked, so ducking and hitting the gas is always an option.

Mine is on me or in the passenger seat. When i get out and cant take the gun with me, i put it under the seat so i grab it as soon as i open the door. My door pocket is too small and my console is too hard to reach with the lift on my jeep.

Bad areas? In my lap. Usually? In the dash under the shift lever between radio and cluster. If I am carrying other guns like to the range? I carry a few guns in the cab with me.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

I wear semi baggy cargo pants most of the time with it in my right front pocket. Same way when I ride my Scoot. I can pull it out of my pocket just as fast as I can get it from the center console. Also there is zero chance of a discharge if you keep your finger off of the trigger.
