FMJ vs JHP, on a bear or tiger?

The recent video of the tiger mauling the guy at the zoo got me thinking.

Will a 9mm JHP penetrate A tiger or bear skull or will it just fragment? And will a FMJ just bounce off? I've searched the Internet, looks like there's a lot of discussion on this. Just wanted to get y'all's take on the subject.

FMJ is not a good idea in your ccw imo.

If you are hiking in bear country then it might be but you would be better served to carry bear spray with you or a bigger bore pistol.

Lots of variables come into play.

My old man shot a Lion in Africa back in the late 80's. First shot was a solid shot, follow up was as well, the lion turned and came at them and the third was a head shot, due to the angle, the bullet hit the skull right above the eye and glanced off. This was with a .338, I don't recall the loads.

With a hard hitting round like that doing nothing to slow down the cat, I would be willing to bet a 9mm would do just about the same, again, given shot location.

Hunting with FMJ's just really isn't a good idea period.

Id try and take any shot i could if i was about to get jacked up by a tiger. Head,shoulder,ass,foot i dont give a fuck. Im loading him full of lead before he takes me out. This way if he does get me hopefully the fucker bleeds out too.
