I picked up a Magnum Escort 12ga semi auto from Bass bro six or so years ago for $299. I have't had any major issues since I've had it. It's not as nice as other semi autos, but well worth $300. ( not sure what they go for now )

yeah, semi autos (even used) start around $500."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

I think we have another shooter in the family...
I borrowed a Remington light weight youth 20 ga. from the same buddy... my daughter shot it last weekend. Although she missed the can, she did pretty well handling the gun... much lighter (and shorter) than my Remington 870 20ga.
The initial response was that it scared her. She was choking back some tears but after about 20 minutes she was proud of herself. By the time we got home that night, she was ready for more. If I can borrow it again, she wants to shoot it this weekend.
I'm not ready to drop $600+ for that same gun so I may have to hit up some pawn shops. I don't want to wait too long where she loses interest though.
